You move so quickly that, if you move into open air (by moving off the edge of a cliff, for example) or over non-solid surfaces (such as a pool of water), then you travel the full distance in a straight line.
At the end of your movement, you come to a complete stop with minimal forward momentum, so if you stop in midair, for example, you plummet straight down as soon as you begin to fall.
